Subject:Santa Monica Wedding - Carey and Dave
Time:01:33 pm

Santa Monica Beach Wedding

Wedding/Reception Venue: The Santa Monica Beach Club

Carey and David are a really great fun loving couple. They seem like they’re always up to something exciting and when you’re around them you get really inspired to do and see interesting things. Just following them on Facebook is a treat, these people know the best restaurants and destinations in LA and they’re some of the most warm and inviting people you’ll meet. From the moment we met them we knew we’d be a great match.

You might remember their Venice engagement session a little while back- we got the personalized intro to the love of food trucks, and we’re better off for it. Many a time since have we gone down to Abbot Kinney Blvd and staked out the food truck lines at night!

Since Carey wrote out a pretty epic description of her wedding, I’m going to let her do the talking. :) Thanks for a wonderful day guys, shooting your wedding was a real treat for the both of us! -Ian and Tanya

A few words from Carey:

A few themes I wanted to have for my wedding, vintage but modern, elegant yet comfortable, and 100% about my husband and I. While difficult, melting those ideas together came out more successful than I ever could have thought. From the start, it was clear that we wanted to have our wedding in what we consider our “backyard” – it just so happens that living in Santa Monica, the backyard is the beach where we spend many days lounging at a private beach club…the same beach that I built sand castles at as a child, and I’m lucky enough to have my other half love it as much as I do….and we always feel so at home there. Luckily, that shone through the ceremony and reception as guests came up to us throughout the night and let us know that the wedding truly reflected us as a couple, a success in my book!

Subject:Palos Verdes Engagement Photography: Nicole and Joel
Time:11:13 pm
Tanya and I both feel really blessed to have as many fun couples to photograph with this year as we do. Nicole and Joel are both very much part of that group! Not only are they great to be around, but their wedding is at one of our favorite venues Firestone Vineyards up by Santa Barbara! We also get to work again with our favorite planner, Joy Proctor of Joy de Vive Wedding Planning. If you remember from our previous Firestone post, the venue is simply tops, so there's going to be some amazing photos to come!

For their engagement session, we decided to shoot out on the Palos Verdes peninsula. As luck would have it, Southern California's June gloom had officially set in, but we decided to give it a go anyway and I really think the pictures speak for themselves. Nicole and Joel are a fantastic carefree couple, and we can't wait to shoot their wedding in a few months!

Subject:Malibu Engagement Photography: Nayla and Matt
Time:01:36 pm
How cute are these guys? Hiking and general outdoorsy stuff are some of Matt and Nayla's favorite activities, so it only made sense for us to head off to Point Dume State Beach for their e-session. Point Dume [somewhat near El Matador, one of our special spots] is one of their favorite getaways, so it was nice to be able to see a new great location in LA. There are tons of little amazing hideaways in LA, Point Dume is definitely one of them...it's also home to the final scene in Planet of the Apes with the Statue of Liberty!

We caught some really amazing sunset light and found a very inquisitive lady-bug in our little adventure. Overall we got some of my favorite engagement photos yet this year, and I've been looking forward to sharing them with you!

Subject:UCLA Engagement Photography - Stephanie and Max
Time:01:10 pm
Stephanie and Max are such a great couple and a real treat to be around! I've been really excited about shooting their wedding as they booked us partly on the fact that I'm a landscape photographer and the landscape up where they're getting hitched [in Fillmore, CA] is fantastic. Very old west and rustic. I think the photos we're going to be able to get up there are going to be amazing, so we're setting aside a little chunk of time to get some really great portraits. With that said, we met the other day over at UCLA to get some engagement photos- they both met at the college and we thought we'd take advantage of its great architecture and spacious campus. Enjoy!

Subject:Los Angeles Engagement Session - Jesse and Miranda
Time:07:34 pm
Our clients Jesse and Miranda have their hearts set on doing a nice modern style wedding so when it came time for their engagement session what better place to shoot than the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. If you haven't visited the concert hall yet, you can spend easily a good hour just walking around the place without even stepping foot inside. It's a piece of architectural amazement and I think we really took advantage. We're going to be shooting their wedding in August up by San Francisco and are really looking forward to it!

Subject:Playa del Rey Tour of Ballona Wetlands!
Time:02:13 am

Ballona Creek Tour

Ballona Creek Tour

Probably the single thing that makes living in Los Angeles bearable is settling down in my town of Playa del Rey. There are so many aspects that make it great and besides the obvious [being on the beach], the next best thing is how it is right on the Ballona Wetlands. The Ballona Wetlands are the last significant wetlands remaining in the LA basin and is home to many a creature that tries to run under my car tires at night [rabbits, hawks, gophers, egrets, etc.]. Coming home at night down Culver Blvd makes it feel like I'm leaving LA and driving into some strange quaint little town. Anyway, enough of my selling points.

I've been meaning to go check out more of it for awhile now and when I found out the Ballona Institute was doing a group tour I jumped on it. They offer free tours the first Sunday of every month run by Roy van de Hoek, a passionate preservationist and director of the institute. I highly recommend checking it out, you can tell in the hour/two-hour tour how much he loves doing what he does and his knowledge of the area is unparalleled. For more information check out the Ballona Institute's website!

Subject:Union Station Engagement Session - Molly and Bill!
Time:10:30 am
Molly and Bill hired us to be their wedding photographer for their upcoming ceremony in January and we recently went and shot their engagement session! I've never shot at Union Station, but it's definitely been on my 'to-do' list, thankfully Molly and Bill were game to give it a shot. Here are some of our favorites from the other day.

Subject:Rachelle and AJ - Granada Hills Wedding Photography
Time:03:26 am
AJ and Rachelle Price are a couple whose laughter is infectious and whose sense of humor is thoroughly unique. Being around these two on their wedding day was such a joy, from the first moment we saw them through the reception at The Odyssey in Granada Hills. They chose a very fresh pink and green color scheme, which was perfect for the mid-morning ceremony. Rachelle's gown was absolutely stunning - she purchased it in her hometown of Kentucky and had it sent to LA for the big day. Village Florist in Granada Hills provided the flowers. Wedding Photography as always by Ian Grant Photography.

Subject:Beckie and Charles - Los Angeles Wedding Photography
Time:12:06 am
Last month I shot a darling couple's wedding photos over in a downtown LA artist studio. Beckie and Charles made a nice break from the traditional [which, nicely seems to be more of the norm lately] and had their ceremony out under the blue Los Angeles sky in the studio's backyard.

Everything came together beautifully as they transformed a wide open space into a gorgeous venue. I actually went to the space with Beckie about a month beforehand and was blown away with what they did with it. There was a lot of space to fill and everything came together gorgeously.

Now on to the photos -
